The Italy-USA Foundation promotes at the Italian Parliament the America Award; it is a prestigious recognition of great civil and institutional work. The award is mainly seen as a means to acknowledge and encourage initiatives and work aimed at favoring relationships between Italy and the United States of America. Clearly famous, eminent figures that have distinguished themselves in their work and have achieved the utmost excellence in their respective fields of interest and activities, and important results in favor of transatlantic friendship, will be considered. Last years the jury has awarded among the others Andrea Bocelli, Paul Bremer, Carla Fendi, Gianni Letta, Oscar Farinetti, Emilio Carelli, Franco Frattini, Alessandro Benetton, Mario Andretti, Enrico Vanzina, Dario Franceschini, Gianni Riotta, Edward Luttwak, Alan Friedman, Carlo Rossella, Luisa Todini, Mario Moretti Polegato, Uto Ughi, Laura Biagiotti, Antonio Campo Dall’Orto, Peter Secchia, Margherita Missoni, Emma Bonino, Lucia Annunziata, Massimo Ferragamo, Christian De Sica, Ennio Morricone, Walter Veltroni, Umberto Veronesi, Renzo Arbore, Renato Balestra, Maria Grazia Cucinotta, Alain Elkann, Paolo Limiti, Tony Renis, Paolo Mieli, Monica Maggioni, Beatrice Trussardi. The next edition of the prize will be held in Rome, at the Chamber of Deputies, on October 12, 2017. It’s possible to submit nominations for the awards, including a short motivation, by sending an email before June 30, 2017. Unsigned nominations or nickname signatures will not be taken into consideration.
Alain Elkann was appointed president of the Scientific Committee of the Italy-USA Foundation. Novelist and journalist, Elkann was born in New York in 1950, his father was French and the mother Italian. He graduated in law at the University of Geneva. He was a collaborator of important Italian writers such as Alberto Moravia and Indro Montanelli. He wrote dozens of novels, essays and articles. He is writing on the newspapers La Stampa, Amica, Capital, and he worked for the television La7. He teached Italian literature at Oxford University, University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University and Jewish University of Jerusalem. He is president of the FIAC of New York (Italian Foundation for Art and Culture), he was president of the Egyptian Museum of Turin, president of the Foundation Città Italia, responsible for culture of the Foundation Rosselli, and president of the scientific committee of Palazzo Te in Mantova. He received at the Italian Parliament the America Award of the Italy-USA Foundation in 2010.

A ceremony to certify “American Friendly Municipality” 50 Italian Mayors was held in Rome, Chamber of Deputies, Aula Gruppi Parlamentari, November 3, 2016, 15:00, promoted by the Italy-USA Foundation. The Foundation also certified some selected companies of the association Ecce Italia, connected with Club Borghi più Belli d’Italia. Among the participants Pino Pisicchio, director institutional relations Italy-USA Foundation, Rocco Corsetti, president Ecce Italia, Fiorello Primi, president Club Borghi più Belli d’Italia, Virginie Vassart, journalist Rai. Chairman was the journalist Giampiero Gramaglia, director of communication Italy-USA Foundation.
A conference on “Droga, armi, energia, contrabbando: traffici transnazionali e finanziamento al terrorismo nel mondo post-sovrano” was held in Rome, Chamber of Deputies, Regina Hall, October 26, 2016, 17:00, promoted jointly by Italy-USA Foundation and Festival of Diplomacy. Among the participants Catia Polidori, executive director Italy-USA Foundation, Stefano Dambruoso, commissioner of the Chamber of Deputies, Alessandro Minuto Rizzo, president NATO Defense College Foundation, Marco del Gaudio, vice national antimafia attorney, Giuseppe Maresca, director general prevention financial crimes Ministry of Economy, Andrea Manciulli, president Italian delegation NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Arije Antinori, sociologist, University Roma La Sapienza. Chairman was Emilio Carelli, founder of SkyTg24.
The America Award ceremony, promoted by the Italy-USA Foundation, was held in Rome at Italian Parliament, Gruppi Parlamentari Hall. The jury has awarded Alessandro Benetton, president 21 Investimenti, Marco Bianchi, Fondazione Umberto Veronesi, Arrigo Cipriani, Harry’s Bar, Christian De Sica, actor, Dario Franceschini, minister of Culture, Giovanni Malagò, president CONI, Tony Renis, singer and producer, Ronald Spogli, former US ambassador to Italy, Beatrice Trussardi, president Fondazione Nicola Trussardi, Alessio Vinci, journalist. A special award was conferred in memory of Antonin Scalia, associate justice of the US Supreme Court. The Italy-USA Foundation, in the frame of the America Award, also conferred three medals of the Italian Parliament to three students of American universities: Shelby Leigh Bradley, Gillian Rose McMurray, Emelia Trop.
