The America Award ceremony, promoted by the Italy-USA Foundation, was held in Rome at Italian Parliament, Gruppi Parlamentari Hall, under the auspices of the President of the Italian Republic, Hon. Giorgio Napolitano. The jury has awarded Emma Bonino, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paul Bremer, former Governor of Iraq, Guido Damiani, President Gruppo Damiani, Oscar Farinetti, President Eataly, Carla Fendi, Fashion designer, Gianni Riotta, Journalist and writer, Enrico Vanzina, Film producer. A special award was conferred in memory of Luciano Pavarotti, tenor, and was given to Nicoletta Mantovani. The Italy-USA Foundation, in the frame of the America Award, also conferred three silver medals of the Italian Government to three students of American universities: Anna Carlson, Cristina Cavalieri, Russell Gonzalez.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Emma Bonino sent a message to the Italy-USA Foundation on occasion of the America Award. Here is a summary of the message.

Ho ricevuto con piacere la cortese lettera che mi avete indirizzato per comunicarmi l’intenzione della Fondazione Italia USA di conferirmi il Premio America 2013 in occasione della cerimonia che si terrà il 3 ottobre prossimo. La decisione della giuria è per me motivo di grande soddisfazione, accresciuta dall’alto profilo delle personalità che prima di me hanno ricevuto questo riconoscimento e dalla consapevolezza del loro contributo, nei rispettivi settori di competenza, al consolidamento delle relazioni tra l’Italia e gli Stati Uniti. Questi rapporti sono del resto fondati da sempre su un’indissolubile comunanza di valori, oltre che di interessi. Tengo a sottolineare il mio apprezzamento per il contributo della Fondazione Italia USA all’ulteriore rafforzamento della sintonia tra la società civile italiana e quella statunitense, che così tanto agevola il compito dei rispettivi governi. Rivolgo pertanto sin d’ora i migliori auguri al presidente e agli altri membri della Fondazione.
